Collins PHL 251 CRITICAL THINKING MARY BURDICK May 26, 2003 Critical Thinking and Perception Paper Essay It was over six years ago and all four sons were still living at home. Being a stay-at- home mother, I was home schooling a special needs child. My husband has just started back to his job after being laid off and the mortgage company foreclosed on our home. The financial situation was very tight and depressing for both my husband and me. I was looking for anything that would help us out so that I could continue to stay at home with my children. We had tried Amway and although we believe it to be a great company and still use the products, it takes a certain type of person to make that business work and neither of us are that kind. We needed the extra income to help provide for the family. One day I picked up the paper, and there in the employment section was an ad for Medical Billers to work out of their homes. I called and immediately received a sells pitch, with my questions being skillfully avoided. This was a special for first time callers. I talked to my husband and I used the last money in my account to purchase the membership. I was very excited. It was four weeks later, the package arrived, and I opened it with anticipation. There inside was a simple three-ring binder with a twenty page manual, a CD-ROM, and a return envelop. That was all. Well, my heart dropped in my chest. I read the manual, took the ten-question test, and received my certification three weeks later. After writing letters and making phone called to the doctors in the database that they provided, I was frustrated. For three months, I worked in the evening after the boys went to bed and still did not have a single client. I was also receiving nasty responses to my communications. It turns out that these poor doctors had been getting phone calls for months from other Medical Billers who were working off the same database. I called the company to complain and get my money back. They informed me that they had met all of the obligations, and no intentions of returning my money. I had been scammed. Many underlying factors contributed to my falling for this con game. Both my husband and I were depressed with the financial situation and were letting the stress of the situation cloud our clear thinking and listening skills. Yes, this company had told the truth and provided everything they said they would. .u06d83c16df1354bb5a2b16507749c081 , .u06d83c16df1354bb5a2b16507749c081 .postImageUrl , .u06d83c16df1354bb5a2b16507749c081 .centered-text-area { min-height: 80px; position: relative; } .u06d83c16df1354bb5a2b16507749c081 , .u06d83c16df1354bb5a2b16507749c081:hover , .u06d83c16df1354bb5a2b16507749c081:visited , .u06d83c16df1354bb5a2b16507749c081:active { border:0!important; } .u06d83c16df1354bb5a2b16507749c081 .clearfix:after { content: ""; display: table; clear: both; } .u06d83c16df1354bb5a2b16507749c081 { display: block; transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: background-color 250ms; width: 100%; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #95A5A6; } .u06d83c16df1354bb5a2b16507749c081:active , .u06d83c16df1354bb5a2b16507749c081:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #2C3E50; } .u06d83c16df1354bb5a2b16507749c081 .centered-text-area { width: 100%; position: relative ; } .u06d83c16df1354bb5a2b16507749c081 .ctaText { border-bottom: 0 solid #fff; color: #2980B9; font-size: 16px; font-weight: bold; margin: 0; padding: 0; text-decoration: underline; } .u06d83c16df1354bb5a2b16507749c081 .postTitle { color: #FFFFFF; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 600; margin: 0; padding: 0; width: 100%; } .u06d83c16df1354bb5a2b16507749c081 .ctaButton { background-color: #7F8C8D!important; color: #2980B9; border: none; border-radius: 3px; box-shadow: none; font-size: 14px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 26px; moz-border-radius: 3px; text-align: center; text-decoration: none; text-shadow: none; width: 80px; min-height: 80px; background: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/plugins/intelly-related-posts/assets/images/simple-arrow.png)no-repeat; position: absolute; right: 0; top: 0; } .u06d83c16df1354bb5a2b16507749c081:hover .ctaButton { background-color: #34495E!important; } .u06d83c16df1354bb5a2b16507749c081 .centered-text { display: table; height: 80px; padding-left : 18px; top: 0; } .u06d83c16df1354bb5a2b16507749c081 .u06d83c16df1354bb5a2b16507749c081-content { display: table-cell; margin: 0; padding: 0; padding-right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-align: middle; width: 100%; } .u06d83c16df1354bb5a2b16507749c081:after { content: ""; display: block; clear: both; } READ: Essay About Hacking Computer The extent of the training was not explained in the original phone call, nor was the accuracy of the database. Managing Human Resources Productivity, Quality of Work Life, Profits

There are several ways through which organizations can create compensation and reward strategies. How to create a reward plan depends on the compensation philosophy of the organization (Madura 2007). These philosophies include the following: market wage rate, internal equity, and performance based compensation.Advertising We will write a custom assessment sample on Managing Human Resources: Productivity, Quality of Work Life, Profits specifically for you for only $16.05 $11/page Learn More The employer can look at the rates paid by other employers and use this as a base for the compensation plan. The employer can also use market survey data to reward by setting salaries below or above what other employers are paying. The employer can also look at how much he values a certain position or employee (internal equity) and set salaries according to this assessment. Performance-based compensation involves rewarding employees based on their performance so that t hey can produce highly. The three crucial steps used for the creation of compensation plans include job analysis, job evaluation and job pricing. Employee benefits and rewards are created by conducting job analysis which involves determining what each job entails, the challenges involved, responsibilities and qualifications required (Callanan Henry 1987). Job evaluation follows job analysis so that jobs are compared against each other and challenging jobs graded higher than simple ones. Job pricing is the final step of creating a compensation plan and this involves establishing the rates that each evaluated job should be paid. The compensation plan for an organization is an integral part of the employer’s strategy to recruit and retain employees. As a result of this, it is important for employers to design a compensation plan that motivates employees to perform higher and achieve job satisfaction. Appropriate components of employee compensation and benefits include the corpo rate strategy, costs, organizational culture and equity. Because the compensation plan should reflect the culture of the organization, it should be based on equity as well as control of costs. Despite the type of compensation plan chosen, the resulting outcome should be motivation of employees. Motivation is one of the key reasons why compensation is carried out. The recruitment and retention strategy guides the employer in determining the ideal compensation plan to use in the organization. Internal equity and regulation of costs are controls that ensure the decided compensation plan is effective in terms of practicability and ability to achieve the recruitment and retention strategy.Advertising Looking for assessment on business economics? Human capital is the most difficult to manage because unlike other resources , human beings are unpredictable and dynamic. They deserve to be treated with uttermost care so as to keep them motivated and responsive to change in the organization. The human resources personnel can obtain useful personnel data from the market and within the organization (Cascio, W. E. (2010). Market surveys can reveal the amounts paid by other organizations in the same industry. This information is useful during the development of recruitment and retention strategies since employers can decide to either attract and retain highly qualified personnel by paying more than competitors or reduce the workforce by paying below the market rate. Human resource data can also be obtained from within the organization through activities such as job analysis, evaluation and pricing. Human resource personnel can conduct these activities within the organization so as to effectively determine compensation plans that will lead to achievement of the recruitment and retention strategy. Human capital management therefore does not involve overseeing employee behavior only but also collecting and analyzing data from the market and within the organization. References Callanan, J.
